The possibility of joining the Internet from almost anywhere has become necessary in society as LiFi technology and interconnected as the current one.
In recent years, LiFi technology has discuss as a substitute for WiFi technology when connecting to the network.
We will try to explain what it consists of and the advantages and disadvantages of this technology.
It has been approximately a time since the technology known as LiFi was first to discuss.
It was in 2011 when the term LiFi was heard publicly for the first time, and the engineer Harald Hass spoke about it during a conference.

Concept
LiFi (Light Fidelity) is a wireless joining that uses light sources to transmit data.
That would be its main difference from WiFi technology, which uses microwaves to carry out this transmission.
LiFi technology works by visible light and uses LED or infrared rays with a transmitter installed to carry the information.
This system uses LED bulbs that turn on and off at a speed invisible to the human eye.
The light blinking emits the signals of zeros and ones captured by the receivers installed in our smart devices.
Advantages of LiFi technology :
speed
The transmission hurry can be up to 100 times faster than WiFi technology.
However, ideal conditions would be necessary to achieve these speeds, a specific environment with enough light power.

Less Interference
It is a system that causes much less interference with other devices.
Unlike WiFi, which uses only two frequencies to transmit the signal, LiFi can use the entire spectrum possible.
This prevents network saturation to a greater extent, making the connection more stable and preventing the speed from being reduced.

Cost Savings
In principle, the infrastructure necessary for the operation of this technology is more petite.
Any bulb or LED light with an emitter instal can convert into a light router cheaply and easily.
Another advantage in economic and environmental terms is its greater efficiency and lower power consumption.
Security
Attacks or attempts to enter our network by unauthorised devices are much more problematic as it is necessary for the device to be in direct contact with light.
Therefore, LiFi is consider to be a more secure system against hacking attacks.

Disadvantages :
Reduced Range
The advantage that we have mentioned regarding safety, as the device must be in direct contact with light, becomes at the same time a drawback.
If the light is covered or blocked, we will have no connection. For example, if we keep our smartphones in our pockets, we will no longer have access to the Internet.
It will be necessary to have the light on to connect to the network, and only devices lit by the same bulb can be interconnected.
Coverage Problems
Direct sunlight causes this technology to malfunction, and the signal does not pass through walls or partitions.

Lack of Compatible Products
The devices must have compatible receivers installed to decode the light signals.
Although we have been hearing about LiFi technology for some time, several obstacles still prevent its widespread use.
It is not expect to replace WiFi in the short term, but they are two technologies that can perfectly coexist.
It is already being used in certain areas, such as aeroplanes and hospitals because WiFi can cause air navigation problems and interfere with measurement devices.
If some of the problems with this system can be solve, it will probably replace WiFi as the priority connection technology.
